Popcorn Treats – Valentines Day Style

Feb 14th, 2010 Posted in cookies, cute, food, gift, holiday | no comment »

I have been trying to think of something my youngest (age 4) can do for his class in pre-school for Valentine’s Day.  When I saw this over at Chica and Jo (an amazing crafting site) I knew I had found it. They include both the recipe and the template for the bag!

Jo posts her take on V-day Kettel corn for the kiddies and it really seems simple.  It took a bit to track down  a place that sells a “wirlly pop” in the area since I really don’t want to have to wait for delivery (Target sells it online only) but alas, I did have to resort to mail order.  I can still remember the days of my parents making popcorn in my Mom’s old stainless steel pot and then the air popper.  The idea of going back to the stove top to make popcorn is refreshing and brings me back to childhood while taking the Microwave out of the equasion.  At least its better than movie theater popcorn, right?

Super Easy Fortune Cookie Find

Jan 2nd, 2009 Posted in baking, cookies | no comment »

I found this last night looking for something easy to do with the kiddies. I love fortune cookies and would love to make them some day but they seem a bit complicated. This is an easy and cute Fortune Cookie Treat that can be made with kids of all reason. The quick cheat is to use puff pastry for the cookie dough, but there is detailed directions in only seven step on how to whip up a batch of these without having to deal with hot cookies to get that shape we are all accustomed to.

This will be so much fun to do as soon as I get my hands on some puff pastry the next time I’m at the grocery store.

Guilty Pleasure – Martha Stewart

Jan 1st, 2009 Posted in Books, cookies, crafting | no comment »

I won’t deny it.  I really like Martha Stewart but only in bite sized portions.  I do watch her show but only when there is something of interest on.  (Like making truffles.  Just don’t try making them when its hot out and no air conditioning.  But they still came out yummy.)  I do buy her magazine, but only the main one (Living), and only when there is something that looks cool inside now.

Martha Stewart and her staff are extremely talented and creative people.  Practicing full Martha Stewart lifestyle would drive me batty but she (and the rest of her team) are a great source for inspiration.  If she can’t do it, she is smart enough to have folks around her that can.  The recipes are really great.  I have never had one fail on me yet and The Martha Stewart Cookbook: Collected Recipes for Every Day is a staple in my kitchen (and looks as if its been though battle several times). It was a wedding shower gift and one of the most useful ones I got. I try to give it as a shower gift when the couple is just starting out on their own since the there are some great, basic recipes and some very advanced ones as well.

Martha Stewart’s web site is also a great resource for all kinds of cool stuff. There are recipes, decorating tips, crafting ideas, party planning tools and much more. The directions are well written and the pictures are helpful. Some of the comments from users are just as good as well. If you’re looking for good ideas, she’s the woman to go to and a good resource to keep at your fingers.
