Sunday’s Charity – Toys For Tots

Dec 14th, 2008 Posted in charity | no comment »

This week’s featured charity is the Toys for Tots program.

It’s the time of year that Toys for Tots need the attention.

From their site:

MISSION:
The mission of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year, and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to needy children in the community in which the campaign is conducted.

GOAL:
The primary goal of Toys for Tots is to deliver, through a shiny new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to needy youngsters that will motivate them to grow into responsible, productive, patriotic citizens and community leaders.

OBJECTIVES:
The objectives of Toys for Tots are to help needy children throughout the United States experience the joy of Christmas; to play an active role in the development of one of our nation’s most valuable natural resources – our children; to unite all members of local communities in a common cause for three months each year during the annual toy collection and distribution campaign; and to contribute to better communities in the future.

In addition to a dropped off toy, you can also make a monetary donation online at their site.  Please check out this site and help make the holidays a bit merrier.

Whew, what a sunday!

Dec 7th, 2008 Posted in charity | no comment »

I just got back from our annual Brunch with Santa with the Junior Women’s Club.  I’m exhausted but I know we made a ton of money.  We were turning folks away at the door for the first seating  and the second seating was almost to capacity.

Almost all the food was donated from either the members or local stores – the Mac and Cheese from the Pop Shop was YUM!  We worked hard and I think it all worked out well.

The money raised is going to the FAFS (Foster and Adoptive Family Services) to help the kids “in the system” where the state can not.  See earlier post for more info about FAFS.

We were really lucky to get the local High School’s National Honor Society kids to come and help out (for extra credit at school).  They were really helpful and the day would have been very hard with out them.

So now I’m off to heat up some of the left overs from the Brunch for dinner because reheating hot dogs is about all I have the energy to make tonight.

Sunday’s Feature – Featured Charity – FAFS

Dec 7th, 2008 Posted in charity | one comment »

As part of the whole concept of good find and doing good, I was introduced to this charity though a club I am in, the Junior Woman’s Club. (Trust me, you’ll hear more about this later.)

The Foster and Adoptive Family Services is a great origination that helps out children in foster care or adoptive family in New Jersey.

There are many ways to help out this week’s featured charity and not just with money.  Check them out to see how you can help these children who are very much in need of help.  Even the simplest things could help these children in crisis and the adults who care for them.

Foster and Adoptive Family Services is a 501(c)3 Non-Profit Organization where 85% of all contributions go directly to the fund.
