It’s my lazy Sunday.  A day I usually just hang out, get a few (very few) things done around the house and just try to recharge my batteries for the upcoming week.  I’ve got stuff to get done today.  These are things I mentally scheduled for today.  A few things around the house and writing that 20 min speech are on the books for today.  (So of course I am writing here instead.)

Yesterday was interesting.  I was chatting with one of my work friends and she asked me to recommend some books on writing for her.  My go to book on writing is Stephen King’s On Writing.  It’s the only Stephen King book I’ve ever read but it is amazing.  My personal copy is out on loan to an aspiring writer.  Getting a view into how Stephen King became an author, his methods, his demons and just the way he thinks really opened my eyes as an author as well.  I am not a mega fan of Stephen King but the few stories of his that I have read or watched have been wonderful.  I don’t like scary movies but “Stand by Me” is my favorite.

So besides my go to book, I really didn’t have any book recommendations for my friend.  Sure, I have tons of books on how to write.  Most of them say pretty much the same thing too when you boil it down.  What did I tell my friend instead? I told her to just write.  Like any skill, it takes time and practice.  The first few things you write will probably look like crap years from now.  But during the process it is easy to think that it is brilliant and going to make a New York Times bestseller.  The thing is, it is brilliant because it got created in the first place.  I cherish all the stories I’ve written even if they are never going to get finished or leave the sanctuary of my computer.  I also feel bad that there are some stories that I have thought of but alas, they never got out of my head before they fizzled away, never to visit me again.

Taking the jump to publish Fire and Ice has been nothing but an awesome experience.  I’ve learned so much about the process and look forward putting out my next story in the next few weeks.  I can’t wait to introduce A New Star to the world.  It still needs the final edits/layout/spit and polish and the final version of the cover as well but it is getting really close.  Every time I see a sale on Amazon or even a “borrow” it amazes me that people are actually reading my story and enjoying time with my “friends” that exist between the “pages” of my book.  I am honored that I can share what comes out of my brain with the world.

I guess it’s time to get a few things done today as I enjoy my Sunday.  Hopefully you are having a restful Sunday as well.
